          Portia Maier is Consul-General and Senior Trade and Investment Commissioner for Canada, based in Toronto. She leads the Australian Government activities in Canada for investment attraction and facilitation, trade and education promotion and the provision of consular services in Toronto and Vancouver with a team of business and consular staff. Portia is a barrister admitted to the High Court of Australia and the Supreme Court of Queensland. Before joining the Australian Trade and Investment Commission, she practised in several areas of law, including commercial, corporations, banking and finance, insolvency and competition law. Portia also brings extensive international experience in senior executive and management consulting roles with global institutions. Prior to practice at the Bar, Portia was Executive Director for Swiss banking giant UBS AG in Switzerland and in the United Kingdom. She was Director at American Express International in Australia, New Zealand and the Asia Pacific region. As senior consultant for a US-based international management consultancy, she led global teams in the provision of corporate advisory services. Portia holds a Master of Laws and a Juris Doctor from the University of Queensland, a Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the College of Law, and a Master of Business Administration from the University of New South Wales. She undertook post-graduate study in international law with Cornell University Law School in Sorbonne, Paris. She is a member of the Bar Association of Queensland.
