João Vicente de Carvalho Vieira
Former Secretary of Petroleum & Natural Gas in Brazil at Ministry of Mines and Energy, Brazil
João Vieira has over 20 years’ experience in the oil & gas industry spent both in Brazil and internationally. Throughout his career João has held numerous technical and management positions for both private and public institutions.
Until January this year, João spent a period of 2 years with the Ministry of Mines and Energy of Brazil having held the positions of Head of the Secretariat for Oil, Gas and Biofuels and Director of the E&P Policy Department. Prior, João had a 10 years tenure with Schlumberger in global roles, applying his technical, commercial and managerial skills to positions in the USA, the UAE, Malaysia and Ecuador. This period was preceded by 6 years working as a petroleum economist for Gaffney, Cline & Associates and a 2 years span with the ANP (Brazil’s O&G Regulatory Agency).
João has substantive expertise in asset evaluation, contract negotiations, reserves certifications, institutional relations, business development and public policy. He holds an Executive MBA degree from Krannert School of Management at Purdue University in Indiana-USA. He also holds an M.Sc. in Industrial Engineering from COPPE at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), and a Geology undergraduate degree with Geophysics Specialization also from the UFRJ.
