Duncan Mackay
Chair, Sponsorship & Director
Duncan Mackay has spent fifteen years as a geologist with wide-ranging experiences, including work with small and large-cap E&P companies, both domestically and internationally. Duncan has a strong academic background with an Honours BSc. from the University of Waterloo and a Ph.D. from Queen’s University. As a coop undergraduate student, Duncan worked for Mobil Oil, ExxonMobil and Shell Canada, where he began full time work in 2001. His doctorate work focused on the sedimentology of a Western Canadian heavy-oil deposit, which has led to an on- going interest in both industry-related and academic aspects of heavy-oil reservoirs and tidal deposits in general. Duncan’s work at Shell Canada spanned 10 years and focused on frontier basins including the Sable Sub-Basin, the Orphan Basin, the Mackenzie Delta and the Beaufort Sea. In 2011, he turned his attention to South America, where he worked for Verano Energy, a Colombian-focused E&P company and, in 2014, joined Serinus Energy, where he presently works, pursuing exploration opportunities in Eastern Europe and North Africa.
